Stephen P. Bird, Ph.D. is Director of Strength and Conditioning (Postgraduate Coursework) at the University of Wollongong. Dr Bird’s publication record and research output include 46 refereed journal articles, 27 conference proceedings, 55 invited addresses, 28 invited conference papers, 50 industry consultancy/collaboration reports, one book chapter and one position stand. He has publication list includes nutrition supplementation, nutritional knowledge, athlete recovery strategies, strength and conditioning, sports science, resistance training, and chronic disease. He has served as an Academic Member on the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA) Education Advisory Panel, Scientific Conference Committee and is Associate Editor for the Journal of Australian Strength and Conditioning. Dr. Bird was the inaugural ASCA Mentor Coach of the Year (2016) and former recipient of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Graduate Research Award and Strength of America Award. He is an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach - Emeritus, an ASCA Level 3 Strength and Conditioning Coach and PCAS Professional Accredited, along with Accredited Exercise Physiologist and Exercise Scientist (ESSA) and Registered Nutritionist (NSA) credentials. Dr Bird served as Director of Strength and Conditioning at the Western Region Academy of Sport coordinating youth athlete development and transition. As a world-renowned strength and conditioning coach and performance science consultant Dr Bird has worked for numerous sporting bodies, including the Indonesian Olympic Committee (2008 Beijing Olympics; 2016 Rio Olympics), Scotland Rugby League (2017 RLWC 2017), Poland Rugby League (2018 ERLWC 2018), Basketball Scotland (2018 Commonwealth Games 2018). Other international competition experience includes World Championships (x5); World Cups (x7); Southeast Asian Games (x4); and Asian Games (x2), along with multiple international pre-competition training camps. He is currently the Senior Performance Scientist at the Illawarra Hawks, NBL team and Physical Preparation Coach for downhill mountain bike champion "Sik Mik" Hannah.
